What is an in-home newborn session?
For these sessions I come to you! They are done inside your home. Most often we shoot in the nursery, your bedroom, and sometimes other areas of your home like the living room or playroom. Wherever is special to you and your new family is a great spot.
In contrast to in-home sessions, some people prefer to go to studios to have pictures of their newborn taken. Most of the time in studio photographs are way more posed and decorated with different props.
Both are great, but I am going to go over 4 reasons why I prefer the more relaxed and cozy in-home newborn sessions.
Reason #1: Parent and siblings are included in photos
I absolutely love in-home sessions because the other family members are included in the photos too! Almost always, in studio newborn photography, the baby is the only person photographed.
I adore seeing the admiration and overflowing love from the parents in these pictures and the new curiosity of the older siblings . Capturing a families unique connection is one of my favorite things to do.
Even if you will probably dread getting dressed, putting on makeup, and smiling through your exhaustion, the experience is unforgettable and so worth it. These pictures will always be extra special to look back on in this crazy stage of your life.
Reason # 2: Less Stress
Your home is familiar and comfortable for your newborn. Being in a familiar setting can help your baby feel more relaxed, which can lead to more natural, authentic expressions and interactions that are captured in the photos.
Also, it’s less stress for you! You have everything you need for the baby close by, so you won’t have to worry about packing the essentials for a car ride to the photography studio.
Reason # 3: Personalization
Being in your home results in a beautiful, diverse gallery. Even if I were to photograph your family in just the nursery, there are so many different angles and shots I can get as your photographer. Natural window light is always best for in-home sessions, but I also bring my own lighting so that we can get the most out of your space.
As your at home photographer, I am able to get photographs that might be more meaningful to you. Some examples can be incorporating special family heirlooms, getting pictures of you nursing your sweet baby, the decor in the nursery, and going to other locations in the home.
Any picture that is taken where you are growing your family will be more unique and sentimental than it would be going to a studio.
Reason #4: Flexibility
What happens if we’re in the middle of a session and the baby is demanding a nap before she gets any more pictures taken? Well, it’s no problem. We can either lay her down or, even better, we can get some sweet and snuggly photos with the parents as she dozes off. A similar scenario is when the baby gets hungry. I will always go with the flow and capture those in between, special moments that you’ll never want to forget as your baby grows older.
In addition to working with the babies schedule, most newborn sessions in a studio are done around 5-10 days of life, in their sleepiest stages. This is so that the photographer can move the baby around and pose them. Once the baby is around 2 weeks old, they are more likely to be a little bit more lively and have their eyes open. A great thing about lifestyle sessions in the home is that the whole photoshoot is not based on getting the baby in those poses, so you have more flexibility planning the day you do your photoshoot and decide if you want your newborn more awake or more sleepy. I love seeing the baby look around with curiosity or look up into their parents eyes or watch their siblings being silly.
So is an at home newborn session worth it?
YES!! I promise to take special care of your family while I am photographing. It will be efficient, relaxed, and planned out with your new babies safety in mind.
